Nava Tehila gathers for Kabbalat Shabbat once a month in Jerusalem (Baka'a neighborhood). Members of all nations and "no nation" are welcome. Our prayer service is egalitarian and frequently accompanied by acoustic instruments. The nusach of the prayers and their styles change from one Shabbat to another. Sometimes we use existing prayer forms, other times we create new forms that rest on the blueprint of the traditional prayer, though may not include every phrase. At times our prayer is ecstatic and includes singing and dancing, while at other times our prayer is contemplative and meditative.
Kabbalat Shabbat in the summer takes place between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. (in the winter 5-7) on Friday night once a month. We currently meet at the Spitzer Hall, located on the bottom floor of Kol Haneshama Synagogue, Asher Street #1 in Baka'a. On occasion we may meet in an alternative space. The exact times and location of this month's prayer are posted on the calendar and on our mailing list.
After Kabbalat Shabbat, at around 8:30 pm 7:30 in winter), we gather in the home of Rabbi Ruth and Michael Kagan, Gidon Street # 8, Baka'a, for a kosher dairy meal, words of Torah, devotional singing, and acoustic music.
