Call and Response – Source Study for Prayer and Song Leaders
A TeleClass with Rabbi Ruth Gan Kagan
One of the most exciting thing happening in Jewish Renewal is the revival of Call and Response in prayers and chants we are leading. Often we are inspired by the musical traditions of Kirtan, Blues and Gospel as well as our own creativity. We revive S'faradic nigunim and restore Ashkenazi call and response that have turned into murmur back to their former glory.
This is an opportunity for you to study sources about the ancient Jewish art of Call and Response. In this class we will unpack Biblical, Midrashic and Halachic Sources (including Codes). We will explore 4 different ways of C&R the sages documented and, of course, put them to practice. This is another delightful opportunity to find out that what you are doing has been Jewish for millennia!
